Start here

You do not need the perfect Southeast Asia itinerary.

You need enough structure to arrive with confidence, and enough empty space to change your mind.

If this is your first trip, start smaller than you think. Two countries in one month is usually better than five. A route with breathing room will teach you more than a route that turns every other day into a transfer.

Maya's rule: book the first two nights, know your rough direction, then leave the middle loose.

Good first steps

  • Choose a first country that is easy to land in. Thailand is often the simplest.
  • Decide whether your trip needs a loop or a start and end point.
  • Leave gaps for weather, tiredness, people you meet and places that hold you longer than expected.
  • Use apps, maps and booking sites, but do not let them flatten the trip into homework.

What this site is for

Explore Southeast Asia is not here to give you one perfect route. It is here to help you make better travel decisions: where to begin, what to skip, how slowly to move and when to stop planning.
